England's Laura Davies, still world-class at the age of 46, started the day tied with Caithness at four behind leader Ashleigh Simon and she surged to victory with a flawless final round of 68 in tough conditions as she came from four strokes adrift overnight to claim her 74th career victory at the women’s UniCredit German Open in Munich. 

 

Davies, shot 10 under par over the final two rounds at after being nine strokes behind after Friday’s second round. She finished with an 11-under total of 277, two ahead of compatriot Melissa Reid (73) and three ahead of third-round leader Ashleigh Simon, of South Africa, who had a 75.

It was her second title of the year, she won the New Zealand Open in February which is her 40th European Tour victory on the Ladies' European Tour and her 74th worldwide.

 

 "I love playing golf courses which allow me to have fun and use my driver and cut some corners. This is built for me. I think the architect had me in mind." Davies said.

 

The four-time major champion started the day four shots behind Simon, but said that the key was that she did not have a bogey all weekend. She added: "I had four birdies and I didn't have a bogey on the weekend and that's always a good thing."
